Child pulled from pool in southwest neighborhood

A child was pulled from a pool in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood Wednesday morning and rushed to the hospital.

According to Metro Police, the incident was reported around 11:34 a.m. and occurred at a home in the 3400 block of Avila Street near Rainbow Boulevard and Twain Avenue.

County: Man attacked by swarm of bees died in hospital

The man attacked by a swarm of bees on Aug. 4 in the southwest valley has died, according to Clark County.

Jose Moreno Pacheco, 49, of Las Vegas, died Thursday, Aug. 18, in a local hospital.

Fire officials say Moreno Pacheco was stung by bees more than 200 times. The attack happened at a home near Grand Canyon Drive and West Oquendo Road. Moreno Pacheco was removing bees from the area.

There were a lot of unanswered questions about the victim and whether or not he had a license to do the bee removal job. However, 8 News NOW found out that the state doesn't regulate every bee business.

According to Nevada law, pest companies who go out and kill bees must be licensed by the state, but bee removal and rehabilitation companies do not.

The Clark County Coroner's Office is investigating the cause and manner of death. The investigation is expected to take another six to eight weeks to complete... Read More

Motorcylist killed in crash on I-215 and Jones

A motorcyclist was killed early Friday morning when he lost control and struck a highway sign support post at an off-ramp at Interstate 215 and Jones Boulevard.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol, the 28-year-old was traveling eastbound around 1:25 a.m. on a Suxuki GSX-R 600 on the Southern I-215 when he steered the motorcycle to the right to exit onto the Jones off-ramp. The motorcycle entered the dirt area between I-215 and the ramp and struck a highway sign support post, ejecting the rider.

The rider was taken to University Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Metro: Suspect may be responsible for 'Cruiser Robbery Series'

Metro Police believe they have arrested the suspect responsible for the "Cruiser Robbery Series."

According to police, they were investigating a robbery that occurred around 7 a.m. at a fast food restaurant near S. Rainbow Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road.

The suspect left the area and went to Durango Drive and Flamingo Road where he was arrested.

Police say he is the person who may be responsible for a series of recent armed robberies around Spring Mountain and Rainbow. That suspect is described as parking a motorcycle outside the business and robbing employees at gunpoint.

Advisory Committee approves preliminary reorganization plan, 27 revisions for CCSD

The Advisory Committee unanimously approved the preliminary reorganization plan and 27 revisions for the Clark County School District.

The committee spent numerous hours Tuesday in a meeting trying to figure out how to reorganize CCSD.

Under the proposed plan, each school would be independently run, and instead of the superintendent, the principal, a team of teachers, and parents would be in charge of hiring and budgeting.

There's no concrete answer on exactly how much it will cost to make the transition.

"It will put pressure on the legislature to address inadequate funding for the school system next session," said Michael Roberson,, Nevada State Senator for District 20. "We do need to invest more in education in Southern Nevada."

Some of the amendments also state that parents who join organizational teams won't be protected from lawsuits. Plus, only middle school and high school students will be able to join organizational teams... Read More

Armed person barricades self in home, Metro says

Metro Police investigated a barricade situation Friday evening.

Around 1:38 p.m. Metro said it receive a call about an armed person in the 5400 block of W. Tropicana Avenue.

Metro: Youth facility director arrested for lewdness

A youth director at the Boys and Girls Club was arrested Thursday for lewdness, according to Metro Police.

Metro said detectives with the LVMPD Sexual Assault Detail investigated a report of lewd conduct between a 44-year-old Willis Brown and a teenage girl.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the suspect, also known as "Coach Willis," may have also had two additional victims.

Brown worked at the Boys and Girls Club located at 10900 Southern Highlands Parkway.

Brown was arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center where he currently faces three counts of lewdness with a child under 16 years of age... Read More
