Hurricane Dorian strengthens to Category 5

MIAMI (AP) – Weather forecasters say Hurricane Dorian has intensified to a Category 5 storm, capable of inflicting catastrophic levels of destruction.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday that Dorian’s maximum sustained winds have increased to 160 mph (260 kph), up from 150 mph (240 kph). It is moving west at 8 mph (13 kph)

“Devastating hurricane conditions” are expected in the Abacos Islands early Sunday, with conditions will spread across Grand Bahama Island later in the day, the center said.

In its advisory at 8 a.m. EDT, the center says the storm’s center is 35 miles (55 kilometers) east of Great Abaco Island and 225 miles (360 kilometers) east of West Palm Beach... Read More

Overnight shooting shuts down traffic

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A man is recovering after being hurt in an overnight shooting in the southern valley.

Metro Police say it happened just before 3:30 Sunday morning, near Tropicana and Cameron.

Officers arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital.

Cameron has been shutdown in both directions as Metro investigates. Plan to avoid the area. ... Read More

Odessa police chief: 21 shot, 5 killed in Texas shooting, gunman dead

Texas (AP) — The Latest on a shooting in West Texas (all times local):

6:10 p.m.

Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke says that at
least 21 people have been injured by gunfire and five killed in a shooting in
West Texas.

At a news conference Saturday, Gerke also says
that at least three law enforcement officers were among those shot.

He spoke after a chaotic afternoon during which police reported that a suspect hijacked a U.S. Postal Service vehicle and began firing at random in the area of Odessa and Midland, hitting multiple people. Police initially reported that there could be more than one shooter, but Gerke says authorities now believe it was one shooter.

At least 10 people shot after Alabama high school football game

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile Police say at least 10 people have been shot at Ladd Peebles Stadium. Police say the age of those injured ranges from 15 to 18.

Police say two people are in custody. Police say they are questioning them, but have not confirmed if they are the shooters.

Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste asks “Why are the young people bringing this type of violence to public events. They’re bringing their beefs that they have with each other in their neighborhoods and they’re putting other people in harm’s way. ” Chief Battiste and the Mobile Police Department has been advocating to prevent teen violence in the city.

Group arrested for illegal campaign donation

NYE COUNTY, Nev. (KLAS) — Six people were arrested for embezzlement, among other charges, in connection to a campaign donation. The donation went to Dwight Lilly’s campaign for County Commissioner.

The donation was planned during the May 2018 meeting for the Private Well Owners Cooperative in Nye County. Deputies say, this was discovered Friday during an investigation. The group illegally donated in excess of $3,000 to Dwight Lilly’s campaign.

Lilly was serving as board member during meeting and is currently the president of the Co-Op. Deputies say, board members conspired to disguise the donation by claiming it was reimbursement for expenses unrelated to campaign.
