Coroner identifies man shot and killed in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County Coroner's Office said 42-year-old Monty Culverson was the person shot and killed on Hassell Avenue late Friday night into early Saturday morning.

The coroner's office said Culverson died from a gun shot wound to the chest.

Metro Police said at 11:55 p.m. patrol officers were sent out to the 1300 block of Hassell Avenue to investigate reports of possible shots fired. However, after a search of the area, Metro said its officers didn't find a victim or any sign of a crime scene.

But at 1:03 a.m., officers received information once again about a shooting in the area of the 1300 block of Hassell Avenue.

When officers arrived to the scene this time, they said they found Culverson in the back of the home, dead on the ground.

Police said there weren't any suspects found at the scene and no one has been arrested.  This is the 108th homicide investigated by Metro Police.

Pedestrian hit and killed at Lake Mead Blvd. and Bonnie Ln.

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police said a person was hit and killed by a car at E. Lake Mead Boulevard and Bonnie Lane. 

Officers said the crash happened shortly before 7:30 p.m.  The details of what caused the crash haven't been released yet, but police said the car came to a rest at Toiyabe St.

The driver was arrested, but officers haven't released any information about her or the charges she may face.

Several streets in the area were closed Thursday night for the investigation.

Hit-and-run victim ID'd, suspect at-large

LAS VEGAS - A man struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Thursday morning has been identified as 57-year-old Marlon Duane Collins by the Clark County coroner.

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Sahara and Eastern avenues. Family members say Collins was on his way to work he he was hit.

Motorcyclist drinking, suspended license, reports says

 LAS VEGAS -- A motorcyclist who crashed with a 3-year-old child on his bike was drinking prior to the crash, a police report said.

Dean Dugan II, crashed Tuesday evening near Lake Mead and Hollywood boulevards. His 18-year-old girlfriend and 3-year-old son were also on the motorcycle and suffered injuries. Dugan suffered a broken leg.

According to the police report, Dugan's license was suspended in February. He admitted to police he was going too fast at the time of the crash and had been drinking. 

Dugan is facing DUI charges. 

Animal Foundation extends discount on cats, kittens

LAS VEGAS — The Animal Foundation announced Thursday it would extend a special that waives adoption fees for all cats and kittens four months and older through Sunday.

The shelter said its cat area was at capacity and more than 140 cats still needed to find homes.

November is also Adopt A Senior Pet month. Adoption fees for all dogs and cats 5 years and older are free for the rest of the month, Animal Foundation said.

Coroner IDs man hit and killed along Bonanza Rd. Sunday

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died in a crash Sunday evening as 53-year-old Gilbert Sanchez of Las Vegas.

His cause of death was blunt force injuries to his head and the manner of death was ruled accidental.

According to police, a pickup truck traveling eastbound on Bonanza Road near Lamb Boulevard hit the victim, who was pushing a shopping car across Bonanza from the south side to the north side outside a crosswalk.

It was the 65th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. 

Missing woman involved in fatal crash

LAS VEGAS -- A 77-year-old woman who was reported missing on Oct. 31 was the pedestrian victim in a crash that night, police said.

Metro Police had asked for the public's help in locating Marie Perez who had last been seen in the area of the 5300 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard on Friday afternoon.

Perez was hit by a car at N. Nellis Boulevard and E. Craig Road around 7:15 p.m. She was transported to University Medical Center where she died.
