'Halfway to St. Patrick's Day' festival kicks off two-day celebration

HENDERSON (KLAS) -- It may only be the middle of September but The City of Henderson is kicking off a St. Patrick's Day celebration, sort of.

Friday night started off the first-ever Halfway to St. Patrick's Day festival at the Water Street Plaza in downtown Henderson.

The free celebration is presented in partnership with the Southern Nevada Sons and Daughters of Erin and wraps up on Saturday, Sept. 18.

2 children of California governor test positive for COVID-19

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Two of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s children have tested positive for the coronavirus and his office says the family is following “all COVID protocols.”

A statement issued Friday says Newsom, his wife and two other children have since tested negative for the virus. The statement didn't provide other details but said Newsom continues to support masking for unvaccinated people indoors and vaccinations to stop the spread of the virus.

All four of the governor’s children are under 12, the age when children are allowed to be vaccinated.

The announcement comes only days after Newsom handily defeated an effort to recall him that was partly driven by the impact of the pandemic... Read More

Magnitude 4.3 earthquake shakes SoCal, epicenter near Carson

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck Carson, Calif. and the surrounding area at 7:58 p.m. Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake’s epicenter was located in Carson city limits, near Dolores Street Elementary School.

Still waiting for the "moment magnitude" (most accurate) for tonight's earthquake in Carson. Current estimate is M4.4. Location is just north of the 1933 Long Beach zone.

Police officer killed in early morning crash, 2nd officer charged with DUI

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A New Haven, Connecticut, police officer was killed in a car crash in Las Vegas on Friday morning, officials said, and the driver, his colleague, was taken to jail.

The deceased officer, identified as Joshua Castellano, 35, is a 7-year veteran of the police department and was assigned to the shooting task force.

The department said Castellano was the passenger of the car, along with several other New Haven police officers. In all, six people were in the car, police said.
