Detectives seek possible victims of accused sexual assault suspect

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - North Las Vegas detectives are asking for help to find possible victims or witnesses of an accused sexual assault suspect.

Amy Gabriela Villarreal, 29, was arrested Thursday by North Las Vegas Police. She's accused of two counts of sexual assault, one count of lewdness with a minor, and one count of child abuse.

Police say Villarreal came into contact with her underage victim while she was working as a behavioral therapist at Las Vegas Crescent Academy, which describes itself online as a community-based behavioral treatment program for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She has also worked at the Center for Autism & Related Disorders (CARD), located in Las Vegas, and the Hamilton Center Mental Health Clinic, which is located in Henderson, according to police.

Man accused of using vehicle for murder

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - A local man was arrested early Thursday morning on charges he intentionally ran down another man with a vehicle and left him to die in a parking lot.

Las Vegas Metro Police detectives say Ricardo Ramos, 41, got into a fight with the victim and two other men around 2 a.m., outside a business in the 900 block of North Pecos Rd.

During the fight, Ramos ran over the victim and drove away, according to police.

Metro officers responded and found an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries. The victim was transported to UMC Trauma, where he later died.

Ramos later turned himself into police and was arrested. He faces charges of DUI and murder. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday morning... Read More

Local food bank teams up to fight hunger across Southern Nevada

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- September is Hunger Action Month and our parent company, Nexstar, is teaming up with Feeding America to fight hunger this month and local food bank, Three Square is a member.

"Happiness. We have food that's the main thing," Yasmin Lopez Fernandez a student expressed to 8 News Now.

18-year-old Fernandez's smile can be seen even behind her mask because she knows food at home is secured. It is all thanks to the efforts of the Clark County School District and community partners.

"We get help at school and our food winners give us a bag of food which have fruits and vegetables and bread," adds Yasmin.

Currently, 10 sites around the Las Vegas valley offer food to students from a USDA waiver which allows breakfast and lunch free of charge according to CCSD dietitian Christina Saheb.

Pfizer releases side effects experienced after booster shots

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) - On Friday, the FDA will discuss Pfizer’s request for authorization for its booster.

In documents posted online, the FDA took note of conflicting data concerning boosters.

The FDA said in a briefing document, “Some observational studies have suggested declining efficacy of COMIRNATY over time against symptomatic infection or against the Delta variant, while others have not.”

Awaiting President Biden's new federal mandate, health officials ask for COVID booster clarification

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- New federal mandates are expected to roll out very soon as a result of President Biden's announcement last week.

Health officials say the president's mandates align with those of Nevada's.

However, they are also awaiting clarification on some issues including, the rollout of a COVID-19 booster.

The State of Nevada is looking forward to learning more about the rollout process when it comes to booster shots.

During a meeting on Thursday, health officials said they'd rely on current recommendations as they always do.

"We will be watching that closely and as we have done with all other emergency use with age ranges and other groups that we've been supporting from the federal level, we will be watching what their recommendations will be," says Candice Mcdaniel the Deputy Administrator of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services. ... 'Life is Beautiful' festival to provide economic boost to downtown Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - The Life is Beautiful concert festival is expected to bring more than 170,000 people to Downtown Las Vegas Friday through Sunday. But first, concertgoers must prove they are vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a negative test.

People lined up Thursday to get their rapid tests at Carson and Las Vegas Blvd. ahead of the big event. The rapid testing tent was scheduled to remain open until 9 p.m. Thursday and will be open all weekend.

All three days of the music and arts festival are sound out. This year, attendees can leave the festival area to and shop and eat and then and reenter up to three times per day. That's a boon for restaurants near the festival grounds.

I-Team: Criminals using dating apps to lure victims; man punched, robbed in Las Vegas hotel room

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Unsuspecting suitors are getting lured, trapped and robbed in what Las Vegas Metropolitan police say is a scheme using dating apps to trap victims.

“You never know who's on the other end of the computer screen,” Lt. William Matchko said. Matchko heads the department’s Vice Unit.

In August, officers arrested two people suspected of isolating, threatening, punching and robbing a man who thought he was on a date.

Police said the man had met Aprileen Sablan, 25, on Plenty of Fish, a popular dating app, at Caesar’s Palace on Aug. 21. Sablan and the man met in person in the casino. Things escalated and the pair ended up in a hotel room.

About a minute later, Zanier Kowlessar, 35, was at the door, police said. The victim tried to leave, but Kowlessar pushed the man back into the room and punched him in the face... Read More
