News

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE -- Nellis Air Force Base is getting a new commander. Base officials say Col. Dave Belote will turn over command of the 99th Air Base Wing to Col. Steve Garland on Friday during a change of command ceremony in the Thunderbird hangar.

Belote has served at Nellis since May 2008, and is retiring from active duty. Garland was vice commander of the 505th Command and Control Wing at Hurlburt Field, Fla. At Nellis, he'll be responsible for the 99th Medical Group, the 99th Mission Support Group and the 99th Security Forces Group. They support more than 12,000 assigned personnel and 313,000 dependents, retirees and veterans.

Garland has been in the Air Force since 1987. He's a master navigator with more than 3,000 hours of flight time, including 1,130 combat hours.
