Police shoot, kill man during hostage situation at mobile home park in northeast Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police shot and killed a man Monday who was holding a woman hostage in a northeast valley mobile home park.

According to Capt. Nichole Splinter, a SWAT team entered the home and shot the armed man. The woman was not injured.

The incident started Monday morning when police were investigating a man allegedly trying to light trees and cars on fire. When police approached the man, he ran and an officer chased him on a foot pursuit. During the pursuit, the man pulled a gun from his waistband and the officer fired a shot at him, but did not strike him, Splinter said.

The man then ran into the Storyville mobile home community on Nellis Boulevard, south of Las Vegas Boulevard where he entered a home with people inside. The man allowed everyone to leave the home except for one woman he held hostage, police said.

Splinter said officers attempted to get the man to leave the home but he refused and a SWAT team entered and was confronted by the armed man.

Metro will review officer body cam footage from the scene and release more details within 72 hours.

This is the 11th officer-involved shooting in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
