Las Vegas police opening new Spring Valley command substation

Police in Las Vegas are moving into a new substation to handle an area west of the Strip.

City and county elected officials including Sheriff Joe Lombardo are marking the opening on Tuesday of the department's Spring Valley area command office on Eldora Avenue.

That's southeast of Durango Drive and Sahara Avenue.

The department says the command will have about 100 officers covering 31 square miles of residential and commercial areas - from Charleston Boulevard south to Flamingo Road, and from Interstate 15 west to Red Rock National Conservation Area.

The command area is the department's ninth.
