Groundbreaking held for Credit One Bank's new headquarters

A large bank is building a new headquarters in Las Vegas and it's bringing new jobs to the valley.

Credit One Bank which is one of the biggest credit card issuers in the U.S. says its adding 500 jobs to help staff the new facility. That's on top of the 500 workers already employed by the bank in the Las Vegas valley.

The bank will be located along the 215 near other new establishments such as IKEA. The president of Credit One Bank says the new positions that come with the new headquarters will be high-paying jobs which include the bank's marketing department, I.T., data analysis, online operations, and risk management.

Bank officials and other dignitaries stuck the first shovels in the ground at the site of the new facility located near Cimmaron and the 215. The building is expected to be 150,000 square feet.

The bank president says Credit One's existing presence is a major factor in deciding to keep the company's operations in Las Vegas.

"The people here in Las Vegas and the community has been so welcoming to us, and so powerful in helping us grow and continuing to grow and expand our cardmember base across the whole country, said Robert DeJong, President & CEO of Credit One Bank. "We just felt like we should stay here, and dedicate ourselves to the Las Vegas base in here."

Credit One Bank initially moved its headquarters from California to Las Vegas in 1996.

Las Vegas-based Burke Construction Group will handle the building's construction.
