High school choirs, county commissioners and Santa Claus will take part in holiday festivities the next two days at the Clark County Government Center.

A tree lighting will be the centerpiece of events at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The 35-foot-tall tree was last put up in 2008 and features 2,000 lights and ornaments as well.

On Thursday and Friday, local high school choirs will be performing in the Government Center rotunda at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. The schedule:

Thursday, Dec. 6

  • 9 a.m.: Desert Oasis High School
  • 10 a.m.: Foothill High School
  • 11 a.m.: Legacy High School
  • Noon: Chaparral High School

Friday, Dec. 7                                                                                                     

  • 10 a.m.: Centennial High School
  • 11 a.m.: Las Vegas High School
  • Noon: Durango High School

Their performances will air on Clark County Television (CCTV) starting Dec. 16 and will be posted on the County’s YouTube page at www.YouTube.com/ClarkCountyNV. CCTV is available in the Las Vegas area on Channel 4 on Cox cable (Channel 89.13 for those without converter boxes) and on CenturyLink, in Laughlin on Channel 14 CMA Access, and via the Internet at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov.
