Eastside Cannery Hosts Community Blood Drive February 28th

Eastside Cannery Hosts Community Blood Drive February 28th

This afternoon until 4pm, Eastside Cannery is hosting a community blood drive in their Eastside events center. The need for blood is high right now, and the United Blood Services have stated the donations are down in 2011. So as a thank you to all of the donors who come out to today's blood drive, the casino is offering each donor a voucher for a free buffet for two at the Eastside Cannery Row Buffet! So give blood and help save a life!

Kirk L. Adams Elementary Teacher Recieves Learning & Leadership Grant!

Kirk L. Adams Elementary Teacher Recieves Learning & Leadership Grant!

Congratulations are in order for Christina Brockett, a teacher at Kirk L. Adams Elementary School! Ms. Brockett has been awarded a $5,000 Learning and Leadership grant from the NEA foundation, which she will be using to lead the teaching community in a study on differentiated instruction. This is a type of instruction where the teachers are able to explore specific educational needs and collaborate to identify student needs and improve learning.

The Foundation awards grants to educators three times a year.  Deadlines for the next review periods are June 1, 2011 and Oct. 15, 2011.  Descriptions of current and past recipients, online application forms, and an instructional video can be found at www.neafoundation.org.
