Bail Set at More Than $1 Million in Pinkney Murder Case

A North Las Vegas Justice Court judge set bail at more than $1 million for a man accused of murdering a Las Vegas teenager.

Chief Judge Chris Lee set bail for 20-year-old Demetrius Black at $1.1 million, during his first court appearance Thursday.

Black is accused of shooting and killing 17-year-old Betty "Jay" Pinkney during a house party January 2012.

He is facing murder and attempted murder charges. According to Metro Police, Black and his friends were kicked out of the party, but returned and randomly shot into the house.

Pinkney was shot and killed, while another woman was hurt.

Detectives have been trying to find Pinkey's killer since the incident more than a year ago. Police said they found Black after he was arrested for an unrelated robbery, and officers found the gun they say was used in the murder.

His next court date is set for May 23.
