Sobriety Checkpoint Planned for Memorial Day Weekend

Las Vegas Police are planning a sobriety checkpoint Memorial Day weekend to help keep drunk drivers off the road.

The checkpoint will be somewhere in the northeast between Stewart Avenue on the south, Cheyenne Avenue on the north, Hollywood Blvd. on the east and Bruce Street on the west. This area was picked after police looked at the number of drunk driving related crashes and found there were 20 in this area of the city in the first four months of the year. Previous sobriety checkpoints in the same area has led to several DUI arrests.

The checkpoint starts Saturday night and lasts through Monday night. It is partly funded by a Joining Forces grant with money from the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety, that money will allow a DUI van to be deployed.
