Metro Police Seek Suspect in Thursday Shooting

Metro Police need help finding a man suspected of shooting two people last week in the northeast part of the valley.

At approximately 8:21 p.m. on Thursday night, officers responded to an apartment complex located in the 3500 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard to investigate a report of gunshots in the area.

Officers found a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest, and a second male victim suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the ear. Both victims were transported to the U.M.C. Trauma Center by medical personnel, where the first victim was pronounced dead.

Metro Homicide Investigators have determined both the suspect and the victims in this case arrived at the apartment complex in the same vehicle. After all three individuals exited the vehicle, the suspect shot the victims, and then fled the area on foot.

Metro Investigating Man's Body Found in Backyard Pool

LAS VEGAS -- Metro homicide detectives are investigating a body that was found at the bottom of a pool in the backyard of a Las Vegas home Sunday afternoon.

The Clark County Fire Department responded to a house in the 2300 block of Abarth St. near Sahara Rd. and Sloan Ln. around 4 p.m. for a report of a drowning. Rescue crews found a body at the bottom of a pool and after the body was brought to the surface it was determined the body had been in the pool for a lengthy period of time, so they notified police.

Detectives noticed some strange marks on the victim's neck, who is described as an African American male in his 50's.

Man Killed by Police Linked to Second Rape

LAS VEGAS -- New evidence has connected a rapist to two brutal sexual assault cases. DNA test results show the man shot and killed by police April 4 is the same rapist who struck in northwest Las Vegas last month.

The Val D'Isere Townhouse complex is gated, but in the early hours of March 30, violence shattered the quiet, peaceful community.

Val D'Isere resident Glenroy Jones was alarmed to learn a fellow resident was raped by an attacker who had been hiding in her home.

"This is such a quiet neighborhood," Jones said. "I'd be very glad if they would start a neighborhood watch in here."

Police say the man bound the woman but untied her after he sexually assaulted her. She fought back and injured him before he ran off.

Unlicensed Surgery More Common

LAS VEGAS -- Plastic surgeons are not surprised a woman died after allegedly seeking services from an unlicensed surgeon. They say cosmetic procedures are happening all the time throughout the city by people who are not licensed.

People think licensed plastic surgeons are more expensive and choose to go the cheap route. In the end, it's plastic surgeons who end up fixing the problem. Or in this recent case, it leads to death.

Walking through the office of Dr. Jeffrey Roth, you feel a clean environment. It doesn't compare to what was found at 3310 east Charleston Boulevard, where Elena Caro allegedly underwent surgery before she died. Old empty syringe boxes were found, and no clear label on the door as to what type of procedures happen there.

"If you are walking into a place and the numbers on the address are falling off the building, that's probably not the place to go ahead and have your procedure," said Dr. Roth.

Two Arrested for Homicide Involving a Medical Procedure

LAS VEGAS -- Metro police have arrested two suspects after a woman was found dead Saturday following a medical procedure.

According to police, the woman was dropped off at 3310 East Charleston Blvd. Saturday afternoon, where she was supposed to undergo a medical procedure. When someone went to pick her up just before 6 p.m., the business was abandoned and the woman was missing.

Officers later learned she was transported from a location in the 2500 block of East Lake Mead Blvd. to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

On Sunday, police arrested 55-year-old Ruben Dario Matallana-Galvas, of Medellin Colombia, and 47-year-old Carmen Olfidia Torres-Sanchez, also of Medellin, Columbia. Both were arrested at McCarran International Airport, where they were waiting to board a flight for Columbia. Matallana-Galvas and Torres-Sanchez are in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.
