Harvest Festival Planned for Next Week

 

A free community festival is planned for next week in celebration of Halloween.

The Sierra Sunrise Harvest Festival will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 30 at the Albertson's parking lot, 6885 East Lake Mead Boulevard.

There will be popcorn, cotton candy, train rides, and face painting. Kids under 12 can also participate in a costume contest and trick-or-treating.

The festival is being organized by the Sierra Sunrise Coalition, which is a collection of community groups that are working for people in the area.

Grammy-winning rock band Maná will perform Sunday at President Barack Obama's rally in Las Vegas at Desert Pines High School. The band, formed in Mexico in 1986, has sold more than 30 million albums.

First Tuesday Features K-9 Unit

 

One of the most popular divisions at Metro Police will be the topic of discussion for the up-coming First Tuesday event.

Officers from Metro’s K-9 Unit will be at the area command centers to talk to people about what the unit does. The discussion is part of an outreach program by Metro. It opens its area command centers on the first Tuesday of every month to the public. Following the discussion about the K-9 Unit, citizens will be able to talk with officers assigned to their area.

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada has a multitude of programming available this summer for girls 5 to 17 years old. From day camps to single day programs, girls can discover fun and friendships to last a lifetime.

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada is offering special anniversary pricing on Camp Foxtail registration as a celebration of 100 years of Girl Scouting. Save $100 on resident summer camp with session prices ranging from $50 to $295.

Camp Foxtail is located in the cool in the cool Spring Mountain Range, just 45 minutes from Las Vegas.

Summer sessions run through August 17 and a 10-day pre-registration is required.  Registration is available at girlscoutsnv.org.
