Sunrise Hospital Ranked Tops in Las Vegas Area

Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children's Hospital ranked first out of three hospitals examined in the Las Vegas area in U.S. News & World Report's first-ever Best Hospitals metro area rankings.

St. Rose Dominican Hospitals and University Medical Center tied for second place.

These new rankings recognize Sunrise and Sunrise Children's for high performance in five medical specialties: heart and heart surgery, cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, kidney disorders and pulmonology. St. Rose earned recognition for its work in orthopedics and UMC garnered praise for its work in diabetes and endocrinology.

To be ranked a high-performing hospital, a facility had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties. Criteria included mortality rate, patient safety and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services.

"We are proud to be recognized by U.S. News and World Report as the number one hospital in Las Vegas," said Sylvia Young, President and CEO for Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and Sunrise Children's Hospital. "This award reflects the skills and expertise of our staff and physicians who set the standard in high-quality, compassionate care to our patients."

U.S. News created Best Hospitals more than 20 years ago to identify facilities exceptionally skilled in handling the most difficult cases.
