April Marie Rhodes was last seen alive on Nov. 23, 1986.

NORTH LAS VEGAS -- A suspect in the killing of a 7-year-old Las Vegas girl in 1986 has been arrested in Missouri.

The suspect, Jasper Goddard,61, is awaiting extradition to Nevada, said Tim Bedwell with North Las Vegas Police Department. Goddard is a registered sex offender. He was pulled over in Ozark, Missouri for a traffic violation on June 27. During the stop, the officer discovered there was a Nevada warrant the rape and murder of April Marie Rhodes. Goddard was arrested.

DNA recovered during the initial investigation was used to identify Goddard as a suspect, police said.

Rhodes' battered body was discovered Nov. 24, 1986 in a storage locker a few houses away from her family's apartment in the 2100 block of Statz Street, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Belmont Street. She was last seen alive the day before.
