LAS VEGAS --  The Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort successfully opened to the public Saturday.

"We are excited finally to kick off our winter season and we appreciate the community's patience during this unseasonably warm weather," said Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR president and general manager.

Only one of the 30 hills was open on Saturday, but the hundreds of visitors didn't seem to mind as they enjoyed the fresh snow.

“This canyon is a hidden gem,” said Keith Pfahler, visitor.

Amanda Pfahler said coming to the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort is an annual tradition for her and her family. “Our daughter is learning how to snowboard she's getting in on the bunny hill and she's doing great,” said Pfahler.

A lack of snow kept the slopes closed, but now there's a fresh 12 inches of the white stuff for skiers.

“Everyone's just excited about the fact that we got the snow last night,” said Jim Seely, Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort.

Staffers at the resort said they hope to have the rest of the upper terrains open by Monday.  For more information about the different slopes and prices go here.
