Freedom Park Getting a New Name
Public Spaces

A park that has been part of the Las Vegas landscape for decades is getting a new name.

Next week Freedom Park will officially be renamed Gary Reese Freedom Park. The park was originally constructed in 1972. It was named Freedom Park to honor the men and women who have served in the military.

The renaming will honor southern Nevada veterans and long-time Las Vegas leader Gary Reese. Reese served as the city councilman for Ward 3, which includes Freedom Park, for 16 years.

The renaming ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Reese is scheduled to be at the ceremony.

The park is one of the largest in southern Nevada. It is home to the Big League Dreams Sports Park and the Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Pool. It also features a skate park, playgrounds, picnic areas, and a fitness course.
