Goodwill Opens New Store, Nearly Doubling Shopping Space

Goodwill Opens New Store, Nearly Doubling Shopping Space

Goodwill opened the doors of its new store and donation center in eastside of the Las Vegas valley Friday.

The store moved to Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue after years of operating at Nellis and Charleston boulevards.

It opened with a brief ribbon cutting ceremony. The first 100 customers received $5 off coupon. Officials with Goodwill expect about 1,000 shoppers by the end of the day.

The new stores feature more than 13,000 square feet of shopping space, which is nearly double the space of the old store, along with a new Kids Korner section filled with toys, books, clothing and shoes just for kids.

The new location also has an improved drop-off area.

Water Heater Permits Now Available at Home Depot

Water Heater Permits Now Available at Home Depot

The city of Las Vegas approved a plan to allow people to get permits for water heaters and water softeners at Home Depots around southern Nevada.

Under the agreement, the Home Depot will be allowed to issue proof of permit and collect permit payments from customers. The information and money will be forwarded to the city. Customers can then go to the city’s website to schedule an inspection, which can be done seven days a week. The idea is to help customers save time and an extra trip.

The pilot program will be available at12 stores around the Las Vegas valley, including four within the city limits.

  • 861 S. Rainbow Blvd.
  • 1401 S. Lamb Blvd.
  • 7881 W. Tropical Pkwy.
  • 9705 W. Charleston Blvd.

The agreement will be for 90 days with six-month renewal options. The kiosks will only offer permits for water heater and water softeners.

IRS Offers Free Tax Help Saturday

IRS Offers Free Tax Help Saturday

Taxpayers who may have difficulty scheduling a visit to an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center during normal weekday business hours can visit the Las Vegas office at 110 City Parkway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to get free tax assistance.

Help with account questions, such as collection or examination issues, is also available during Open House. In some instances, virtual assistance will be offered, as taxpayers will be assisted over the telephone by IRS employees who are working in other offices around the country.

"We know some people are facing challenging economic times and we want to provide extra assistance on these Saturdays," IRS Spokesman Raphael Tulino said. "Our goal is to help them get what they need from the IRS."

In addition to the normal array of services, limited help preparing tax forms is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
