Harper Wins in the World of Trading Cards

Las Vegas High School’s Bryce Harper is making a name for himself playing centerfield for the Washington Nationals.

The young star's power on the diamond is also pushing up the value of his trading cards. Stores that sell sports cards say most of the requests they are getting are for Harper’s rookie baseball card.

"We had some Bryce Harper rookie cards that we sold for $400 to $500," Johnny Hansen, the manager at Legacy Sports Cards, said.

Hansen says that Harper’s popularity is peaking. He says the value of the card is actually higher because of the hype.

"Hype even overshadows performance. Even if he hits 500 home runs, his stuff is not going to increase that much," Hansen said.

The card for Lebron James, who just helped the Miami Heat win the NBA championships, does not sell for as much as Harper.
